The NAR 2019 Remodeling Impact Report
Thinking of remodeling your home, but not sure where to wisely spend the money? Then you need to read the National Association of Realtors 2019 Remodeling Impact Report. The report analyzed various improvements made to both the inside and outside of homes and how those appealed to home buyers as well as how home sellers recovered those costs when the homes sold.
Inside the home, home buyers valued kitchen remodeling, HVAC upgrades, new wood flooring or refinishing, and bathroom renovations most. In terms of recouping remodeling investments, home sellers recovered the greatest amount of their investment by upgrading the kitchen, refinishing or replacing hardwood floors, adding a new master bedroom or owner’s suite, and bathroom upgrades.
Outside the home, home buyers valued new roofing, new windows, new siding, and new garage doors. Home sellers recovered the highest amount of their remodel investment when they did the same things that buyers valued - new roofing, new windows, new siding, and new garage doors.
The report is quite detailed and worth the read if you are thinking of remodeling. The complete report can be accessed here. Of course each market is unique, and certain remodeling ideas could be specific to the market, such as a heated driveway in Park City might be an upgrade not covered in this report.
